Merlin's Chosen Series~Victoria Kaer

An interview with Victoria Kaer
1.When did you know you wanted to be a writer?
I'm not sure I knew, it just happened one day. I was laid off from my job, sitting at home applying for jobs and getting no response. Basically, I was bored out of my skull. There was this little scene running through my head that refused to go away. One day I sat down and began typing, within a few months I'd typed out the first draft of book one of the Chosen series. I had no clue what I was doing or why, I just sat there and typed.

2.What is your most interesting or craziest writing quirk?
I'm not certain I have any quirks. I do have a little Yoda Tsum Tsum that sits by my laptop and I call him Writer Yoda. I talk to him sometimes and occasionally I post pictures of him on my Facebook. He yells at me when I've been slacking off on my writing. Okay, so maybe that is a quirk.

3.What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books? How much work actually goes into creating the final book that goes to print. All of the formatting and cover design. Then there's the Ebook formatting, which is completely different from the print book. It's so much more than what you realize beyond just the work in writing the actual book.

4.What has been your favorite book to write?
The first book of my Chosen series. It was the first and will always be my favorite. Some really wonderful characters have come out of that series. They're sort of like family now. I love every single one of them and I'm very attached to all of them.

5.Which character has been your favorite?
People will probably expect me to say Chandra since she's the main character of the Chosen series and while I love her, I have to say Risleigh. He doesn't come into play until book three of the series but he was fun to write. He's a complex guy, there's a lot to him than what you first see on the surface when you meet him.

6.What advice would you give new/up and coming writers?
Never stop learning. Ever. Read, a lot. You can learn so much from other authors. Get to know other authors in your area. You'd be surprised how many local authors there are. Reviews and critiques can get you down, but try and take them with a grain of salt and learn what you can from them. See if what people are saying is the truth and move from there. Don't beat yourself up if you make a mistake, fix it and keep going. We're all human and we aren't perfect. Not everyone will love your writing, so ignore the haters.

7.Which writers inspire you?
I can't even begin to list all the writers that have inspired me. It would be a long list.

8.What genre are your books?
Chosen is fantasy and Regulated is dystopian.

9.What draws you to this genre?
They're both genres I also enjoy reading.

10.Anything else you would like to say about writing? Encouraging words for potential writers?
Don't get into writing if you believe you're going to do it for the money. That is a one in a million, you must be in the right place at the right time, chance. Do it because you enjoy it. I do it because I love writing. As long as you're writing because you love it it will be worth it.

Thank you Victoria

 About Victoria
Victoria lives in Las Vegas, Nevada with her husband, daughter, a corn chip lovin’ cat named Max and a fluffy mutt named Brody. She’s a Chicago transplant who only misses her husband’s relatives and the Chicago style food, but can definitely live without the humidity, the mosquitoes, or the below freezing temperatures in the winter. Jeans and T-shirts are Victoria’s usual style.

Victoria can usually be found either typing furiously at her computer, or with a book in her hand. She encourages her daughter to read regularly. Both love all books, though they specifically love the fantasy genre above all else. Reading and writing are not only a hobby of Victoria’s; they define her life.
